Fun Dive: a short dive (around 30 minutes), suitable for un- experienced divers and even for those who have never dove before. After a short briefing, you go under water with the instructor. The instructor holds your hand during the dive.

Scuba dive: For qualified divers, who have license. You will dive with a diving master or instructor, who will fit the best diving for you.

We offer a number of diving sites in the marine park, one of the best diving sites in east Africa and a very safe place, free of sharks.

Outer Kisite:  Diving at 5 to 12 metres. A great spot to watch different species of fish within one reef system. Offers a Shallow, long and relaxed dive.
A good chance to see: turtles, morays, lobsters, rays, pipe fish and almost always dolphins.

Inner Kisite: The more shallow end of Outer Kisite – maximum 8 metres. A great spot for beginners and for refresh dives. A good chance to spot turtles, crocodile fish and trigger fish.

Coral Garden/Pink Reef: Diving at 8 to 15 metres. Known for the pink variety of soft coral. Also hosts a large variety of tropical fish.

Dolphin Point: Diving at 3 to 12 meters. This dive site owes its name to the playful dolphins. Many divers are lucky enough to spend their time with here.

Nyuli: Perfect for deep dive, The reef  begins at 27 meters.  Famus for its larger predatory fish:  groups of Barracuda, Trevally, and blue striped Snapper. Leopard sharks, Napoleon wrasse, Shovel Nose Rays and huge Groupers. You need to do this dive more than once to see everything.

Best time for diving:

The diving season runs from January through April and August through December. The Best months are November and December. Divers can see the whale shark in October, November and December.

Living aboard the Yacht

The luxurious and elegant vessel accommodates up to 10 guests in 5 individually controlled airconditioned cabins. It boasts a spacious forward deck and salon with a dining area, a well stocked bar and a little library. Each day, 3 or 4 dives are planned. You can also enjoy snorkeling, fishing, swimming and sunbathing, making your holiday an unforgettable experience! By night you will anchor in calm mangrove fringed lagoons.

Diving

The yacht mostly anchors in well protected calm waters for your comfort and relaxation. From here the water activities are arranged either by inflatable boat or directly from the yacht. The S.Y. Jambo has full dive equipment on board and the dive crew take care of all the details. Depending on the itinerary, diving is done in Kisite Marine Park (Kenya) or Pemba Island (Tanzania). Non-diving partners are welcome and snorkeling or spice tours on the island can be arranged. Welcome to Shimoni. In Swahili, the word “Shimoni” means “the place of the cave”.

The caves were formed millions of years ago, by tiny coral polyps, under the sea. There are several caves, once joined together and reputed to extend some 5 kilometers inland. Over the millennia, the coastline has been forced upwards by movement of the tectonic plats, until what was once a beautiful coral reef is now dry land.

For centuries the caves were used as “Kayas” which were Shrines and as hiding places, where the local people would go to avoid attacks by marauding tribes from the hinterland. It is hard to imagine a more secure refuge!

In the 18^th and 19^th centuries, at the height of the infamous slave trade, the big slaving dhows from Arabia came down on the monsoon winds to east coast of Africa, returning with their miserable human of slaves. It is almost certain that these caves were used by the Arabs as a slave pen, where the slaves were held pending the arrival of the ship to take them to Zanzibar. Old rusted pieces of chain were found in the cave.

By visiting the caves, you have can help our efforts to better the lives of the local community. This project is run by Shimoni community and helps to buy medicines for the dispensary, books for schools and hopefully in the future better water supply.

Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National park, é o 2º mais famoso parque marinho no Mundo (a seguir ao Australian Marine Park). Estende-se por uma área de 30 km rica em vida marinha incluindo 4 pequenas ilhas rodeadas por recifes de coral. Numa visita ao parque podem-se observar: golfinhos de 8 espécies (ex:Sousa chinensis, Tursiops aduncus), baleias de bossas (Megaptera novaeangliae), tubarões baleia (Rhincodon typus), Tartarugas Verdes e de Pente (Chelonia mydas, Eretmochelys imbricata). Peixes de grande variedade incluindo: tubarões anjo, peixes mariposa, castanhetas, garoupas, moreias, peixes escorpião, pargos, peixes porco e bodiões.

Mergulho

Outer Kisite: Profundidade de 5 a 12m. Um óptimo local para observar uma grande quantidade de vida marinha num só recife. Oferece um mergulho de pouca profundidade longo e relaxante. Uma boa oportunidade para ver: tartarugas, moreias, lagostas, raias, trombetas e quase sempre golfinhos.

Inner Kisite: A parte mais baixa de Outer Kisite – máximo 8 metros. Um bom lugar para iniciados ou quem esteja à algum tempo sem mergulhar. Boas hipóteses de ver: tartarugas, peixes crocodilo e peixes porco.

Coral Garden/Pink Reef: Mergulho de 8 a 15 metros. Conhecido pela sua variedade rosa de coral macio. Grande quantidade de peixes tropicais.

Dolphin Point: De 3 a 12m. Este ponto de mergulho deve o seu nome aos golfinhos que lá vão brincar. Muitos dos mergulhadores têm a sorte de passar todo o seu tempo aí com eles.
